Apisto borellii’s (as they’re otherwise known) can be quite a delicate dwarf cichlid species and care needs to be taken in raising them. For starters they’ll need to have a suitably sized aquarium, ideally at least 20 gallons in size. Apistogramma borellii’s are usually a very peaceful tropical fish, but males can sometimes become territorial especially during breeding season. As such, the tank needs to be large enough to accommodate them and needs to have enough hiding places for weaker apisto borellii’s to retreat to. For the apistogramma borellii to thrive a densely-planted tank is advisable, with plenty of caves and roots along with areas of free water.
